Alliance for Green Socialism

The AGS rejects capitalism because it exploits workers, consumers and environment. We need a radical transformation to a society that values both people and the natural ecology on which people depend for life. The capitalist drive for endless growth, endless consumption and huge inequality will destroy our ecosystem and our society. Green socialism would mean a better, fairer, happier life for all of us.

Oct 2013THE GRAVY TRAIN It is with interest that I read of Kensington & Chelsea Conservative councillor Daniel Moylan's gravy train salaries and the many lucrative posts that he holds. When David Cameron was talking about the Big Society and calling on people to be volunteers. I am sure that he was talking about the unpaid help that so many people give to their communities. I am not sure how Daniel Moylan could have got it so wrong ! Daniel Moylan says if you want something done ask a busy man. What he is busy at is milking the system. It would be very difficult to find any ordinary worker on Crossrail taking home 40,000pounds and then having any energy left to do another job. It also seems strange that he is getting paid extra for being on Crossrail when he represents Transport for London who are already paying him 24,000 pounds a year. Not to forget the 10,597 pounds as a ward councillor and 75,000 pounds as an aviation advisor. Daniel Moylans and his Conservative friends don't seem to be affected by the austerity cuts that have been inflicted on ordinary people who didn't cause the problem in the first place. Eddie Adams
Sep 2013LONDON FIRE SERVICES Boris Johnson is bent on closing London fire stations despite warnings by the Fire Brigades Union that this will put Londoners at risk. And despite the promise of David Cameron that his party would get money to the front line and protect services. Johnson has ordered the London Fire Authority to close ten fire stations with the loss of 552 jobs, 14 fire engines and two rescue units. Before he was elected, Boris claimed there would be no cuts on his watch . He has also claimed that the number of fires had reduced since he was mayor. This claim is simply not true. These cuts are being mirrored around the country. In Smethwick the Fire Service recently dealt with a huge fire involving 100,000 tons of plastic. But this stretched services to the absolute limit. There was only one fire engine left to cover the rest of the West Midlands, with a population of 2,600,000. In London a coordinated and cross party campaign has saved the Clapham Fire Station. But other fire stations in the capital are threatened with closure and yet more with downgrading. As the FBU point out, this will mean slower response times for four million Londoners. That means lives will be at risk. Johnson has not listened to Londoners, his own Fire Authority, or London Assembly members. For further information see Fire Brigades Union
